Song:Giving You The Best That I Got

Album:Giving You The Best That I Got

Anita Baker is a very classy R & B singer who gained a significant following in the 80s. She was born Jan. 26, 1958 in Toledo, OH and grew up in Detroit. She listened to jazz singers like Sarah Vaughan & Dinah Washington and was in the local gospel choir. She started out with a group called Chapter 8 in 1975 and though they weren't successful, her contacts from that group led her to Elektra Records where she teamed up with her Chapter 8 pal producer Michael J. Powell for the 1987 hit album Rapture. Giving You the Best That I Got was the 1988 follow up and also hit the top of the charts and won her a couple of Grammys. Here's the video. For most of the 90s Anita took a break to raise a family. She returned in 2003 with You're My Everything on Blue Note. She sounds better than ever in a more jazz oriented setting and Anita Baker continues to write and record great songs. Fans always wanted her to record jazz and she sounds great.
