The songs Curtis Mayfield wrote as leader of The Impressions would have been enough to make him one of the all time greats of R & B. But he reinvented himself in the early 70s with music that was just as good. His music from the film Superfly is better than the film and cemented Mayfield's place in music history. This 2CD Anthology comp is the only one that covers both periods. Mayfield continued to tour through the 80s though not with the same success. He became paralyzed when a lighting rig fell on him during a concert in Brooklyn on Aug. 14, 1990. He continued to record and tour until his death on Dec. 26, 1999 at age 57.
