AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The Lost Generation

Artist:The Lost Generation

Song:The Sly, Slick and the Wicked

Album:The Brunswick Years Vol. 1

The 1970 single The Sly, Slick and the Wicked was a top 30 hit. It was the only chart single for the soul group The Lost Generation. Most of their chart success was on the R&B charts. They only recorded two albums. The Lost Generation was from Chicago. Lowrell Simon was the lead singer and main songwriter. His brother Fred Simon was a member along with Jesse Dean and Brownlee who co-wrote the songs. Brownlee had been a member of the group The C.O.D's. They scored a top five R&B hit with the 1965 single Michael (The Lover). Meanwhile, Lowrell Simon was a member of The Vondrells and they had a local hit with Lenore. After those groups split up, Lowrell formed a new group with his brother Fred, Brownlee and Jesse Dean. Dean was in The Vondrells. Lowrell was childhood friends with Brunswick Records head of promotion Gus Redmond. He got them a record deal. The 1970 single The Sly, Slick and the Wicked was their first single and it reached #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #14 on the R&B Singles chart. The album The Sly, Slick and the Wicked soon followed. Simon, Brownlee and Redmond wrote half the songs including The Sly, Slick and the Wicked. Lowrell Simon was lead singer. Chi-Lites leader Eugene Record produced the album. The Chi-Lites were also on Brunswick. The Lost Generation continued to have success on the R&B charts and they released the 1972 album Young, Tough and Terrible. They split up in 1974. You can get The Sly, Slick and the Wicked on this 2CD budget comp of Brunswick Records soul. The Simon brothers and Brownlee formed the group Mystique with former Impressions lead singer Ralph Johnson. They released a 1977 album for Curtis Mayfield's Curtom label. Brownlee died in 1978. Lowrell recorded a 1979 solo album for Liberace's AVI label. He also had success as a songwriter. Here's a video of The Sly, Slick and the Wicked by The Lost Generation.
