For the most part, the Quebec music business is on an island. Very rarely does an artist break out of the Quebec market even if there is potential as was the case for singer songwriter Andree Watters. She had success in Quebec with her 2003 debut album AW and singles like Si Exceptionnel. But this success didn't last and she last recorded in 2012. She was born Jan. 25, 1983 in Charlesbourg, PQ which is a borough of Quebec City. She started performing as a teen and won a provincial singing contest. She moved to Montreal and appeared on TV. In 2003, she signed with BMG Canada's Vik label and released her debut album AW. She wrote and produced the album with veteran producer Fred St-Gelais. He's a big fish in the Quebec music business. The album sold well in Quebec and the singles Si Exceptionnel and Ne Reste Pas did well on the charts. Andree won a Felix Award for Best Rock Album of the Year and was nominated for four other Felix awards. There were plans to release the album in France but that was cancelled. So then what? Well, unless Andree wants to sing in English a la Celine Dion, she's stuck in a limited market. She continued to have success in Quebec but nothing lasts forever. Andree last released an album in 2012. Her last two albums were country albums. This comp is available as a digital download. In recent years Andree has produced live stage productions in Quebec along with children's music. This is very typical of the Quebec music business. Here's the video for Si Exceptionnel by Andree Watters.
