AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks

Artist:Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks

Song:Little Fang

Album:Enter the Slasher House

Avey Tare is a member of the popular indie band Animal Collective. He sings, plays guitar and writes most of the songs. He has recorded solo occasionally mostly to indulge in his obsession with horror films. And in 2014, he formed the one off band Slasher Flicks. Some call this a supergroup but that's one of those terms that the music business throws around very liberally. It's definitely a one off band as Tare has since recorded three solo albums. He was born Dave Portner Apr. 24, 1979 in Baltimore. He met the members of Animal Collective in high school. They all have pseudonyms. Animal Collective was formed after Tare recorded a couple of albums with Noah "Panda Bear" Lennox and Brian "Geologist" Weitz. They were attending college in New York City and that's where Animal Collective was formed. Tare recorded a couple of solo albums for the indie label Paw Tracks. For the 2014 album Enter the Slasher House, Tare signed a new record deal with Domino Records. So he decided to form the band Slasher Flicks and tour to support it. The video for Little Fang features puppets by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. It's a concept album based on Tare's obsession with horror films. Tare is lead singer and plays guitar. The other members are Angel Deradoorian formerly of Dirty Projectors on bass and Jeremy Hyman formerly of Ponytail on drums. The album was critically acclaimed and is available on CD. But it was definitely a one off. As Animal Collective continues, Tare has recorded three albums. The most recent of these were recorded at his home studio in Ashville, NC and he did everything himself. Here's the video for Little Fang by Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks.
