Artist:Gotan Project
Song:Notas
Album:Lunatico
Gotan Project is a mix of tango and electronica. Gotan is an anagram for tango. They had success on the festival circuit in the 00s. Gotan Project was formed in Paris in 1999. Guitarist Eduardo Makaroff is from Argentina. He moved to Paris in 1990. He formed Gotan Project with Christopher H. Muller and Philippe Cohen Solal in 1999. Both play keyboards. Muller is from Switzerland and Solal is a French DJ and owner of Ya Basta Records. After releasing the 2001 album La Revancha del Tango, they got the attention of British DJ Gilles Peterson and he got them an international record deal with XL Recordings which is the home for Adele. So that's when Gotan Project started touring internationally. Notas is from the 2006 album Lunatico. The album did well considering this is not commercial music. They usually bring in outside singers and musicians. The spoken word is by Juan Carlos Caceras of Paris Gotan Trio. The bandonleon is by Nestor Marconi. Both guys are from Argentina. This album is available as a budget CD. Singer Christina Villalonga was added as a permanent member after this album. After the 2010 album Tango 3.0, Makaroff and Muller split from Solal. Solal owns the Gotan Project name and recordings. Makaroff and Muller went on to form Plaza Francia with singer Catherine Ringer of Les Rita Mitsouko in 2014. They have released a couple of albums on Les Rita Mitsouko's label Because Music, most recently in 2017. They have also recorded as Muller & Makaroff on the German Gronland label. Here's Gotan Project performing Notas at the 2007 Fiesta des Suds in Marseille, France.
