Edgardo "Dado" Moroni is an Italian jazz pianist who is unknown here in North America. This 2011 album is to date his only recording for a US record label. He was born Oct. 20, 1962 in Genoa, Italy. He started playing piano at age four. And as a teenager, he played local clubs. Moroni recorded his first album in 1980. He played European jazz festivals and clubs in the 80s as a member of a band led by bassist Jimmy Woode. Woode was a former Duke Ellington bassist who moved to Europe in 1960. Moroni moved to New York in 1991 and though he currently lives in Italy, he still goes to New York a lot. He has recorded with Clark Terry, Ray Brown, Ron Carter and Tom Harrell. Moroni started recording regularly as a leader in the late 90s for Italian labels like Abeat. Ghanian Village is from the 2011 album Live in Beverly Hills. This was recorded and filmed at Rising Jazz Stars in Beverly Hills on Apr. 10/11, 2010. The album was produced by Resonance Records owner George Klabin. He had the foresight to film the show and a bonus DVD comes with the CD. The band is bassist Marco Panascia and drummer Peter Erskine. Panascia is an Italian who lives in Los Angeles. Erskine is a former member of Weather Report and Steps Ahead who has played on tons of records. This is to date Moroni's only album for a US label. Moroni is back recording for Italian labels. He is currently Professor of Jazz Piano at Guiseppi Verdi Conservatory of Music in Turin. Here's Dado Moroni with Marco Panascia and Peter Erskine performing Ghanian Village from the DVD Live in Beverly Hills.
