Here's the match video of Io Shirai defending her NXT Women's Championship from last night's NXT Takeover show. I have been telling you guys for weeks that if Io loses, she's off to the main roster. So that's what will happen. The match was great except for some questionable and formulaic creative decisions. Thumbs up to both women. Raquel may be the most improved wrestler in the WWE. They showed Sarray with Stephanie McMahon at ringside. Dakota Kai came out with Raquel. The match was Raquel slamming Io but not able to put her away. And Io doing crazy things. Questionable booking decision number one. Having Dakota interfere so early in the match. The ref caught her and tossed her out. This would have been more dramatic at the end of the match. Plus Sarray could have gotten involved. Io said in an interview with BBM Sports that she has spent a lot of time with Sarray recently as they live in the same neighborhood in Orlando. After Io hits a moonsault on the ramp, she lays Raquel out and then disappears. This happens in all her matches. Where's Io? She climbs to the top of the skull on the set and hits a cross body on Raquel. She takes her back to the ring and hits her moonsault. Raquel kicks out. And that's questionable creative decision number two. The main complaint I heard about this match was the finish was flat. That's because kicking out of finishers is a formula that deflates fans. I knew Raquel would win after she kicked out. HHH should know better than that. And sure enough, After a couple of powerbombs, Raquel won the match. The finish was anti climactic because it was formulaic. Afterwards, HHH was coy about whether Io was moving to the main roster. But the WWE posted a farewell to Io video that can be viewed on YouTube. Be sure to check out this match as it is pretty great.
