Artist:Samantha Fox
Song:Touch Me (I Want Your Body)
Album:Greatest Hits
Samantha Fox was 16 years old when she appeared topless on Page 3 of the British newspaper The Sun. She turned this into a significant recording career in the mid 80s. Touch Me was one of her three big hits. Sex appeal was her calling card. She was born Apr. 15, 1966 in Mile End, London, England. Her father managed her career until she sued him for embezzling funds in 1991. Samantha appeared in theater as a child and had a band as a teen. After releasing a couple of singles, her mother sent lingerie pics of her to The Sunday People newspaper's Girl of the Year modelling contest. Samantha finished second and got the attention of The Sun and their Page 3 feature. She signed a four year contract with The Sun and was Page 3 Girl of the Year from 1984-86. I guess Samantha was the Betty Grable of the 80s., number one pinup girl. After retiring from Page 3, Samantha signed with Jive Records. The 1986 single Touch was her debut single. When it reached #3 on the British Singles chart, Jive released it in the US and it reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album Touch Me was certified Gold. The song was written and produced by Jon Astrop, Pete Q. Harris and Mark Shreeve. Astrop had a band called The Group who recorded a 1983 album for Jive. So they knew him. Astrop produced four songs on Samantha's first album and two on her second album. Samantha had two other top ten hits, Naughty Girls and I Wanna Have Some Fun. After that she faded. She wasn't a great singer. Sex appeal can only do so much. You can get all her hits on this budget comp. She left Jive in 1991. She hasn't recorded much since then. She turns up as a TV presenter occasionally on Good Morning Britain and other shows. She's done reality TV too. Such is the life of a former pop star known mainly for her sex appeal. Here's the video for Touch Me (I Want Your Body) by Samantha Fox.
For a brief time she was something else alright. I still have some pictures of her on my computer, the posters from the 80's when she was at the height of her popularity. Thanks Frank. That brings back some bittersweet memories. David.
