Artist:Karen Matheson
Song:O Nach Eisdeadh T'un Sgeul le Aire (Oh That You Would Listen To...)
Album:Downriver
Karen Matheson is best known as the lead singer of the popular Scottish group Capercaillie. But she has also recorded solo in recent years. She was born Feb. 11, 1963 in Taynuilt, Argyll, Scotland. After performing in local halls as a child, She formed Capercaillie in the 80s with some high school friends. The other original member still with the group is Karen's husband Donald Shaw. He plays piano and produces. Though Capercaillie has been very popular in Scotland for many years, Karen decided to record solo in 1997. So Capercaillie performs in the Gaelic style but a lot of the songs are original and they use electric instruments. Karen wanted to record acoustically and perform traditional songs in Gaelic. So that's the difference. O Nach Eisdeadh T'un Sgeul le Aire is from Karen's 2005 album Downriver. This was released in the US by Compass Records. In Scotland Karen and Capercaillie record for the Scottish label Survival. Most of the songs are traditional and sung in Gaelic. Shaw produces and plays piano and he brings in musicians like Donal Lunny. So if you are interested in Gaelic music, this could be for you because Karen is a great singer. She released her latest album in 2017. Capercaillie last recorded in 2013 but Shaw keeps busy producing other artists. Here's Karen Matheson performing O Nach Eisdeadh T'un Sgeul le Aire. It seems to be from a Scottish TV show.
