Here's the match video of Mackenzie Dern vs Nina Nunes from yesterday's UFC show in Las Vegas. This fight is at Strawweight. Mackenzie is on a three fight winning streak. She is a BJJ world champ. So obviously her ground game is great. Her striking has been sub par. But she is now training with Cris Cyborg's coach Jason Parillo and he has already made improvements. Nina Ansaroff is now calling herself Nina Nunes. She just had a baby with Amanda Nunes. Despite two years of inactivity, she was still ranked number five. She probably should have been removed from the rankings last year. This is why no one takes UFC rankings seriously. The ranking is based on an upset win over Claudia Gadelha. That was three years ago. She would not be ranked if it wasn't for that fight. The high ranking makes Nina look like an elite fighter when she isn't. The fight was over the moment Mackenzie took Nina down and established top position. She has so many little tricks and Nina tried to fight her off but couldn't. There was ten seconds remaining in round one when Mackenzie secured an armbar and that was it. The dominant win did not surprise me. Nina was never that good. A likely next opponent would be the winner of the upcoming Carla Esparza vs Yan Xiaonan fight. Yesterday we may have seen the emergence of Mackenzie Dern as an elite fighter. Enjoy the video!
