Snoh Aalegra is an up and coming singer songwriter who has had success on the R&B charts. She won the 2020 Soul Train award for Best New Artist. I Want You Around is her biggest hit to date. She was born Shahrzad Fooladi Sept. 13, 1987 in Uppsala, Sweden. Her parents are Iranian. After her parents divorced, she moved with her mom to Stockholm. Snoh started writing at age nine and at age 13 she signed a developmental deal with Sony Music Sweden. Nothing ever came from that. In 2009 she signed as Sheri with Universal Music Sweden and released the album First Sign. Though she had some chart success in Sweden, Snoh moved to Los Angeles and signed with ARTium Recordings owned by producer Ernest "No I.D." Wilson. The label is distributed by Sony. She changed her name to Snoh Aalegra and appeared on Common's 2014 album Nobody's Smiling. She released an EP and the single Bad Things. Then Prince called her and told her he wanted to produce her. Sadly he died before he could do that. I Want You Around is from her 2018 album Ugh, Those Feels Again. It topped the Billboard Adult R&B chart and reached #23 on the R&B Singles chart. Snoh writes all her songs with frequent collaborator Marcus James. Wilson is executive producer. He produces some songs and brings in outside producers like Big White and Cam D'Obi for I Want You Around. The album is available as a digital download. Since then Snoh won the Soul Train Award for Best New Artist. She did NPR's Tiny Desk Concert. One of her songs appeared on the soundtrack of the Epix TV series Godfather of Harlem. And she appeared on Alicia Keys' 2020 album Alicia. Snoh is currently working on new music. Her next album could be big. Here's the video for I Want You Around by Snoh Aalegra.
