AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Spiritualized

Artist:Spiritualized
Song:Come Together
Album:Ladies and Gentlemen...We Are Floating In Space

Spiritualized has had success mostly in their native England. The 1997 album Ladies and Gentleman...We Are Floating In Space is their most successful to date. Their music is described as space rock or neo psychedelia. Spiritualized leader Jason Pierce is from Rugby, England. He was a member of the 80s band Spacemen 3. Pierce and co-leader Peter Kember weren't getting along. After Spacemen 3 split up in 1989, Pierce asked the other members if they wanted to form a new band. Pierce was lead singer, guitarist and songwriter. At the time of the 1997 album Ladies and Gentlemen...We Are Floating In Space, the other members were Kate Radley (Pierce's girlfriend) on keyboards, Sean Cook on bass and Damon Reece on drums. Spiritualized were on Dedicated Records, the same label as Spacemen 3. After two albums, they signed a US deal with Arista. And that signed is what got them international attention. The album reached #4 on the British album chart and it was certified Platinum worldwide. Special guests included Dr. John, The Balanescu Quartet and the London Community Gospel Choir. By that time Pierce and Radley split up and she left the band. Cook and Reece left over money and formed Lupine Howl. Pierce hired new musicians and Spiritualized recorded two more albums. In 2005, Pierce almost died from pneumonia. He recorded a solo album during recovery. And he reformed Spiritualized for the 2008 album Songs in A&E. Pierce got ill again this time with liver cancer. After chemotherapy, he signed with Fat Possum Records and there have been two Spiritualized albums since then including And Nothing Hurt last year. Spiritualized is currently on a US tour and they should record new music afterwards. Ladies and Gentlemen...We Are Floating In Space is available as a budget CD. Here's the video for Come Together by Spiritualized.
