AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Little Sonny Jones

Artist:Little Sonny Jones
Song:I Got Booted
Album:Crescent City Bounce: From Blues to R&B in New Orleans

Little Sonny Jones was best known as Fats Domino's best friend and opening act. He recorded a few singles in the 50s that didn't catch on and then left the music business and returned in the 70s. He was born Johnny Jones Apr. 15, 1931 in New Orleans. He started singing professionally in the late 40s and became friends with New Orleans legend Fats Domino. Fats named him Little Sonny Jones. Jones' debut single Do You Really Love Me? was released on Specialty Records in 1953. Four more songs including I Got Booted were produced by Dave Bartholomew and released on Imperial Records in 1954. The songs are great and you can get them on this 4CD box set but they were unsuccessful. When Domino became popular, Jones opened for him until 1961. Jones went to work in a sugar factory but continued to sing in local clubs. In 1975, he recorded the album New Orleans R&B Gems on the Netherlands based label Black Magic. That album was re-released on CD in 1995 on Black Top. So Jones continued to perform locally in New Orleans. He was a regular on the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. He died of heart failure on Dec. 17, 1989 at age 58. Here's a video of I Got Booted by Little Sonny Jones.
