Brett Okamoto of ESPN reported yesterday that Valentina Shevchenko will defend her UFC Flyweight Championship vs Liz Carmouche on UFC on ESPN+ 14 Aug. 10 at Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay. This will be the main event. A couple of weeks ago there was talk that this fight would main event the July 20 show in San Antonio. I guess that was too soon for Valentina. This is still a very quick turnaround for her. It's like I said after Valentina beat Jessica Eye. The UFC have zero Flyweight contenders. I didn't think Jessica was a credible contender and neither is Liz. The UFC is to blame for TUF 26 being a bust. The two TUF 26 finalists were forced to move up to Bantamweight. And other than Maycee Barber who came to the UFC as a Strawweight, the cupboard is bare. And Maycee needs more fights before she would be ready. Joanne Calderwood could have been a contender but she lost to Katlyn Chookagian. Katlyn is similar to Jessica. All her wins are soft. It would be a rerun of Valentina vs Jessica. So back in 2010, Liz won over Valentina on a show in Oklahoma. That was a long time ago. Also remember that Valentina was a full time kickboxer until she signed with the UFC. She dabbled in MMA. Now the UFC is pushing her as an unbeatable monster but they really need to find decent Flyweights. Liz is a good but not great fighter. She's 2-1 since dropping to Flyweight but Lucie Pudilova and Jennifer Maia are not top fighters. And Liz lost to Alexis Davis who is now on a two fight losing streak. Liz was scheduled to face Roxanne Modafferi at the San Antonio show. Though I don't think either fighter is a credible contender, I would have been OK with the winner of that fight getting a title shot only because there is no one else. Everything the UFC has tried so far to develop the Flyweight division has fallen flat. They need to get their act together.Breaking: Valentina Shevchenko vs. Liz Carmouche will headline UFC Fight Night on Aug. 10 in Uruguay, per multiple sources. Carmouche is only one of two women to ever defeat Shevchenko in MMA. It happened back in 2010, at a regional show outside Oklahoma. pic.twitter.com/4JbJ6uETrv

Welcome to Frank Pozen's Big Bad Blog. A lot of folks have been asking me to update them about my recovery. So I thought I would start a blog primarily to do that but also to talk about other topics of interest including the wrestling business and whatever else I can think of. I plan to update this on a regular basis so check back and leave a comment if you wish.
