AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Delirious?

Artist:Delirious?
Song:Deeper
Album:History Makers: Greatest Hits

The 1997 single Deeper was so popular in in the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) market that Capitol Records thought Delirious? could cross over to pop. Though that never worked out, Delirious? is still an iconic band in CCM. They started out in 1992 as The Cutting Edge Band at the Arun Community Church in Littlehampton, West Sussex, England. The founders were lead singer and guitarist Martin Smith and keyboard player Tim Jupp. Members of the church youth group filled out the band. The band played locally. Smith and Jupp worked at a recording studio so they were able to release some EPs. Then Cutting Edge got more serious when Stuart "Stu G" Garrard became lead guitarist and Jon Thatcher became the bassist. Then Smith was seriously injured in a 1995 car accident. During his rehab, he changed the group name to Delirious?. The 1997 album King Of Fools was their first album as Delirious?. The single Deeper got them a deal with Capitol's CCM label Sparrow. They thought Delirious? could cross over to pop and be like U2 who always claimed to be CCM. Capitol tried to cross Delirious? over to pop first with the 1999 album Mazzamorphis and then the 2001 album Audiolesson Over?. Delirious? toured with Bon Jovi and Matchbox 20. The second album in particular was a big failure. Delirious? alienated their CCM fanbase and they got nowhere with mainstream audiences. So with the 2003 album World Service, Delirious? returned to CCM for good until they retired in 2010. This comp has all their hits. At first they were just going on hiatus but Smith decided to end Delirious? after one final album and tour. Smith has released several EPs and recently suggested that Delirious? could reunite someday. Garrard and Thatcher formed One Sonic Society. They released a 2012 album and they seem to still be around. There's no question that in 1997 Delirious? had potential to be much bigger than CCM. Here's the video for Deeper by Delirious?.
