AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Heartland

Artist:Heartland
Song:I Loved Her First
Album:I Loved Her First

Heartland topped the country charts with their 2006 debut single I Loved Her First. It was all downhill from there as subsequent singles went nowhere. Heartland are from Huntsville, AL. They formed in 1994 with Jason Albert on lead vocals, Craig Anderson on guitar, his brother Todd Anderson on drums, Charles Crawford on fiddle, Mike Myerson on lead guitar and Keith West on bass. They were going back and forth to Nashville trying to get a record deal. They heard I Loved Her First at a songwriters showcase at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. The singer that night was Walt Aldridge. He also wrote the song with Elliot Park. Aldridge was lead singer of the 80s band The Shooters. He was a staff songwriter and producer at FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals. Aldridge agreed to help Heartland get a record deal. I Loved Her First had been around for a while. The song was usually rejected as too old fashioned. It's clearly a wedding song. But Heartland loved the song and it got them a deal with Lofton Creek Records. It topped the Country Singles charts. Aldridge wrote and produced most of the album. After subsequent singles didn't do well, Heartland left Lofton Creek. The label has closed and this was their only number one country hit. Heartland released a few singles on Country Thunder and that label also closed. By 2012, only Albert and Crawford remained as the others quit the music business. They added Chad Austin who recorded as a solo artist for Asylum in the 90s. Heartland still tours as a trio and they have released occasional singles. Here's the video for I Loved Her First by Heartland.
