AccuRadio Song Of The Day-JP Cooper

Artist:JP Cooper
Song:September Song
Album:Raised Under Grey Skies

JP Cooper scored a top ten hit in England with the 2016 single September Song. It doesn't look like his label Island Records has tried to sell him outside of England. John Paul Cooper was born Nov. 1, 1983 in Middleton, Manchester, England. He got interested in music as a teen and taught himself to play guitar. He got into soul music and joined a gospel choir. Cooper's biggest influence is Ben Harper. He probably sounds too much like Harper. Starting in 2012, Cooper released several EPs which led to signing with Island Records in 2014. After a couple more EPs, Cooper sang lead on British DJ Jonas Blue's 2016 single Perfect Strangers which reached #2 on the British Singles chart. And that set things up for September Song which reached #7 on the British Singles chart in 2016. Cooper says September Song is a nostalgic look at teenage romance and the video reflects that. The actors in the video are James Short and Madeleine Ross. The single and most of Cooper's album was produced by Teemu Brunila formerly of the Finnish group The Crash. Cooper and Brunila wrote the song with Benjamin "Mr. Hudson" McIldownie and Jon Hume. The album Raised Under Grey Skies was released Oct. 2017. Cooper is currently on a European tour and he released the single Sing It With Me featuring Astrid S. So a new album is on the way. And it looks like Island may have him tour the US once it is released. As I said, I think he sounds too much like Ben Harper. He need to be more distinctive. But he's a songwriter so he can write for others if his solo career doesn't pan out. Here's the video for September song by JP Cooper.
