Here's the fight video of Alexa Grasso defending her UFC Flyweight Championship against Valentina Shevchenko from last night's UFC show in Las Vegas. Of course this is the third fight between these two. In the first fight, Valentina was winning when she made a very stupid mistake and Alexa submitted her to win the title. In the rematch, I thought Valentina won. But a really bad judge's scorecard turned the fight into a draw. So there had to be a third fight. Valentina's strategy to win this fight was lay and pray. She took Alexa down repeatedly and did enough so the ref wouldn't stand them up. So I thought Valentina pitched a shutout and I scored it 50-45. All three judges scored it the same. There were complaints that Alexa didn't get enough credit for submissions from bottom position. I didn't think it was enough to even win one round. What Alexa needed to do was get it back standing and show some urgency. It looked bad to the judges. She looked defeated very early in the fight and no one in her corner had a solution. The fight was boring but Valentina did what she had to do to get the title back. It was excellent strategy no doubt conceived by Valentina's long time coach Pavel Fedotov. I expect Manon Fiorot to be the next challenger and I think she will win the title. Enjoy the video!
