Vieux Farka Toure is a Malian singer songwriter and the son and the son of legendary singer Ali Farka Toure. So I guess it could be said that he is following in his footsteps. Toure made his first big appearance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and he's been doing very well since then. He was born Mar. 12, 1981 in Bamako, Mali. His father tried to discourage him from getting into music. But Toure secretly learned to play guitar and enrolled in the Institut National des Arts in Bamako. In 2005, Modiba Productions owner Eric Herman wanted to become Herman's manager and get him a record deal. But he had to get permission from his dad and other community elders. His 2006 debut album was released on World Village. for the 2009 album Fondo, Toure signed with Six Degrees Records. The album reached #5 on Billboard's World Albums chart and Village Voice named it one of the top albums of 2009. Toure appeared on the Kickoff Concert for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. So that was obviously a big deal. Toure wrote and produced the album. It's available on CD. Toure 2011 album The Secret featured guest appearances by Dave Matthews, Derek Trucks and John Scofield. Toure recorded six albums for Six Degrees. Toure's latest album was released in 2022. He is currently on tour in Europe. He should record a new album after that.
