The Cuban reggaeton duo Gente de Zona topped the Latin charts with the 2016 single La Gozadera. For those who don't know, reggaeton is Latin hip hop. We hear Latin influences in hip hop all the time. But reggaeton is aimed at the Latin market. Alexander Delgado started Gente de Zona in Havana in 2000 as a hip hop group playing at parties. But he switched to reggaeton to appeal to Cuban fans. Gente de Zona released a couple of albums on the Italian label Planet Records. But things started to pick up when Delgado teamed up with Randy Malcom from the timba band Charanga Habanera and signed with Sony Latin. This led to their appearance on the 2014 Enrique Iglesias single Bailando. This reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. This was followed by the 2015 single La Gozadera featuring Marc Anthony and that topped the Latin charts. This was followed by the 2016 album Visualizate. This was Gente de Zona's first album on Sony. Pitbull also appears on the album. Delgado and Malcom wrote all the songs with Arbise "Motiff" Gonzalez and he produced the album. Gonzalez has worked with Gloria Estefan and others. The album was certified 2XPlatinum and won a Latin Grammy for Best Tropical Fusion Album. This album is available on CD. Gente de Zona has released a couple of albums since then. But it looks like La Gozadera may turn out to be their biggest hit. Here's the video for La Gozadera by Gente de Zona featuring Marc Anthony.
