Album:Harlem River Blues
Justin Townes Earle was the son of country music legend Steve Earle. He was a singer songwriter like his dad. And also like his dad, he had his demons. Sadly, Justin was unable to overcome them and he died in 2020. He was born Jan. 4,1982 in Nashville. Steve Earle named him after one of his heroes Townes Van Zandt. He grew up with his mom as dad had an alcohol problem and left in 1984. After recovery, dad returned in 1994. Earle began using drugs at age 12 and battled addiction for his whole life. He went to rehab nine times but always relapsed. Earle dropped out of school and was in a couple of bands and toured with his dad. He signed with the Chicago based roots music label Bloodshot Records in 2007. Ain't Waitin' is from the 2010 album Harlem River Blues. Earle wrote and produced everything himself. This album is available on CD. Earle left Blooshot in 2012 and recorded two albums for Vagrant Records and two for New West Records. His final album The Saint of Lost Causes was released in 2019. Justin Townes Earle could have been successful for many years. But he just couldn't kick his drug habit. He died on Aug. 20, 2020 at age 38 from an accidental overdose of fentanyl laced cocaine. A tribute concert was held Jan. 4, 2023 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. Performers included Steve Earle, Shooter Jennings, Buddy Miller, Emmylou Harris, Jason Isbell and many others.
