Artist:Ron Kenoly
Song:Jesus Is Alive
Album:Jesus Is Alive
Though Ron Kenoly could be a gospel singer, his music could best be described as Praise & Worship (P&W). So songs like Jesus Is Alive straddle the line between black and white gospel. Kenoly is one of several black artists who are not marketed as gospel artists. He was born Dec. 6, 1944 in Coffeyville, KS. After graduating from high school, Kenoly moved to Los Angeles. While in the US Air Force, he was in the Mellow Fellows, a cover band that toured military bases. Upon his discharge, he moved back to Los Angeles and became a demo singer. He wanted to be on TV like Nat King Cole and Sammy Davis Jr. Kenoly released a couple of singles in A&M in the mid-70s as Ron Keith. In the 80s, he became a Christian and earned a Doctor of Ministry and Sacred Music from Friends International Christian Ministry. in 1985 Kenoly became worship leader at Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose, CA and then he became music pastor. He was spotted by Integrity Records house producer Tom Brooks. Jesus Is Alive is from Kenoly's 1991 debut album Jesus Is Alive. It's one of his signature songs. Integrity had a distribution deal with Epic. They weren't a gospel label. They were a P&W label. Kenoly has been very successful in that market. He's still around. He released an album last year. His sons Ronald and Samuel have recorded as the Kenoly Brothers. Here's Ron Kenoly performing Jesus Is Alive 1991. I think this is from a home video that Integrity released with the album.
