Invicta Phoenix Rising 2 analysis

On Sept. 6, Invicta is doing another one night tournament, this time for Flyweights. This will air on UFC Fight Pass. As with the first tournament, there will be eight fighters in the tournament. The first round matches will be drawn at random. Those matches and the semi finals will be one five minute round. And then the final will be three five minute rounds. As a bonus, a first round finisher will get to choose her second round opponent. Invicta is offering this knowing that most of these fighters don't finish fights. There was only one finish in the first tournament by eventual tournament winner Brianna Van Buren. She's now in the UFC and the only good thing to come from that tournament. Most of the other fighters were UFC failures or retreads. They have done the same thing here. The most obvious fighter that sticks out like a sore thumb is DeAnna Bennett. What the hell did she do to earn this opportunity. I can see the audience groaning "Her again!!!!!". It's the same thing with Milana Dudieva. She's been terrible since before she was in the UFC. And we have Marilia Santos who didn't look very good in her recent appearance on Dana White Tuesday Night Contender Series (DWTNCS). Other fighters include Finland's Maiju Suotama who lost to Meisha Tate on a 2010 Strikeforce show, Brazilian Daiana Torquato who is 9-3 on the Brazilian regional circuit. The other three, Cheri Muraski, Liz Tracy and Miranda Maverick all have had mixed results in Invicta. There are also a couple of reserve bouts. If you recall, two fighters in the first tournament missed weight and had to be replaced. Invicta veteran Alexa Connors will face Mariya Agapova from DWTNCS. And Josee Storts will face Helen Lucero. Both are Invicta newcomers. Look, I'm not a fan of this format. And then they bring in retreads who should be fighting in Podunk. Maybe good fighters don't like the format either.
