AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Ellie Goulding

Artist:Ellie Goulding
Song:Lights
Album:Bright Lights

British singer songwriter Ellie Goulding scored a top five hit in 2011 with Lights. She has faded since then but she's still successful at home. She was born Dec. 30, 1986 in Hereford, England. She started writing songs as a teen. While studying drama at University of Kent, she met her manager Jamie Lillywhite and he introduced her to producer Finlay "Starsmith" Dow-Smith. Ellie signed with Polydor in 2009 and her debut single Under The Sheets charted in England. Ellie also appeared on Later...With Jools Holland and she toured with Little Boots. I would describe Ellie's music as Portishead influenced electro pop. Lights was the title of Ellie's 2010 debut album. The song Lights isn't on the album. Ellie scored British top five hits with Starry Eyed and her cover of the Elton John classic Your Song. That wasn't on the album either. It was in a commercial for the John Lewis department store chain. It reached #2 on the British Singles chart. Polydor and Interscope in the US released a reworked version of the album Lights as Bright Lights in 2011 that included Your Song and Lights was released as a single. It reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. On the album Lights, Ellie wrote and produced most of the songs with Starsmith. She wrote and produced Lights with Richard "Biff" Stannard and Ash Howes of Biffco. They have been musical directors on The X Factor since 2010. Ellie wrote Lights about her fear of the dark. The album Lights was certified Platinum. But Bright Lights has Lights and Your Song so that's the album you want. Ellie's other top five single was Love Me Like You Do from the 2015 film Fifty Shades of Grey. A couple of singles have been released from Ellie's upcoming album. The album does not have a title or release date. I expect her to have continued success in England but not so much in North America. Here's the video for Lights by Ellie Goulding.
