AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Gino Soccio

Artist:Gino Soccio
Song:Try It Out
Album:Remember

The 1981 single Try It Out was one of two number one dance music hits for producer Gino Soccio. He was born Sept. 9, 1955 in Verdun, QC. He learned to play piano as a child and as a teen he had his own home studio. While studying philosophy at the University of Montreal, producer Pat Deserio asked Soccio to play keyboards on the 1977 album Kebekelektrik. After War Dance from that album was a dance hit, Soccio decided to produce his own albums. He signed with Quality's Celebration label and released the 1979 album Outline. The big surprise was when the single Dancer topped the dance charts. It got him a US record deal with Warner Bros. Soccio used Montreal session musicians on his albums. After two albums on Warners, the 1981 album Closer was on Atlantic. The single Try It Out also topped the dance charts. The lead vocal is by Memphis based session singer Erma Shaw. The trumpet solo is by Montreal based jazz musician Roger Walls. Soccio played keyboards. Soccio also produced other artists for Quality like disco singer Karen Silver and Jamaica born soul singer The Mighty Pope. Unidisc has the rights to Soccio's recordings and they released this comp. He also produced the 1979 disco album by Montreal Canadiens legend Guy Lafleur. It doesn't look like Soccio has produced anything notable since the early 80s. But he was a hot producer in Montreal for a few years. Here's the video for Try It Out by Gino Soccio.
