Kanna Asakura vs Ayaka Hamasaki added to Dec. 31 RIZIN show

I've known about this match for a while but today RIZIN announced that Kanna Asakura vs Ayaka Hamasaki has been added to RIZIN 14 Dec. 31 at Saitama Super Arena. This is being billed as for the RIZIN Women's Super Atomweight Championship. Of course Kanna won the Grand Prix last year and then she beat RENA in the rematch in July. In that match it was pretty clear how much quicker Kanna is than RENA. She's 21 years old and her record is 13-2. Over the past couple of years Kanna may be the most improved female fighter in the world. The key to that was to stop training with her father and move to Paraestra Matsudo. And I think that input from objective coaches has forced her to raise her game. And she is also training at other gyms which she wasn't doing when her father was training her. Right now she is training at San Diego Combat Club with Manny Hernandez, Liz Carmouche and a bunch of other female fighters who train there. Ayaka is 36 years old and her record is 16-2. She is a former Invicta and Deep Jewels champ. She is probably the best fighter ever trained by martial arts living legend Megumi Fujii. And since Megumi married and joined her husband's gym Burst, Ayaka has become head trainer at AACC. And in that role Ayaka trained RENA to face Kanna. That should help Ayaka prepare for Kanna. After a year off while she was training RENA, Ayaka won over Alyssa Garcia and then Mina Kurobe. She doesn't seem to have lost much of her quickness. And quickness is the key to this fight. Both fighters have stellar wrestling and judo. So I expect this fight to play out on the ground. One advantage Ayaka has is her ability to finish. But last year Kanna spent some time at Burst training with Megumi Fujii. I expect her to go there again and no one knows Ayaka better than Megumi. So I'm expecting a possible fight of the year and I don't care who wins.

  1. Sounds like a real good matchup here Frank. I am glad they are fighting. should be good and interesting to see who wins and how. Both of these women sound like they are very good fighters with impressive records. I am only sorry I will not be able to see this. Rizin is pay-per-view, and probably on when I am working 2nd shift at the warehouse. Enjoy Frank. David.

  2. I'm not watching it live either. RIZIN shows are way too long for me. The match video will be up on Youtube the next day and I will post it on the blog.
