AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Jhelisa

Artist:Jhelisa
Song:Friendly Pressure
Album:Galactica Rush

Singer Jhelisa Anderson had modest success on the London club scene with the 1994 single Friendly Pressure. Those who are fans of Acid Jazz or neo soul should check her out. Jhelisa is from Jackson, MS from a musical family. Her father plays piano and he is a gospel DJ. Her aunt is Vicki Anderson who is married to James Brown's right hand man Bobby Byrd. Her sister is Pamela "P.Y." Anderson and her cousin is Carleen Anderson. They both moved to England to sing with the popular group Incognito. So it's not surprising that after recording albums with the groups Pal and Soul Family Sensation, Jhelisa moved to England in 1991. She joined The Shamen and appeared on their 1993 album Boss Drum and the hit singles Phorever People and L.S.I. (Love Sex Intelligence). Jhelisa went solo and released the 1994 album Galactica Rush on Dorado Records. The single Friendly Pressure was popular in London clubs. Jhelisa wrote and produced the album with Lee Hamblin who had previously produced Womack & Womack and Chante Moore. The guitar solo is by session musician Phil Hudson. Since then Jhelisa has released a couple of albums. But for the most part she is a backup singer who has recorded and toured with Bryan Ferry and Courtney Pine among others. I think she still tours with Ferry. Here's the video for Friendly Pressure by Jhelisa.
