Artist: Chairmen Of The Board
Song:Give Me Just A Little More Time
Album:Everything's Tuesday: The Best Of Chairmen Of The Board
The 1970 hit Give Me Just A Little More Time was the biggest hit by the outstanding R & B group Chairmen Of The Board. They were produced by the legendary team of Holland-Dozier-Holland after they left Motown to start their own label. The lead singer and group leader was General Norman Johnson (born May 23, 1943 in Norfolk, VA). He formed The Showmen as a teen and they had a hit with It Will Stand in 1961. In 1968, he decided to go solo and brought fellow Showmen Danny Woods to Detroit with him along with Harrison Kennedy of Stone Soul Children and Eddie Curtis of Huey Snith & The Clowns. Eddie Holland, Lamont Dozier & Brian Holland had left Motown and started Invictus Records. The group signed and was called The Gentlemen and then changed to Chairmen Of The Board. They hit the jackpot with their first single Give Me Just A Little More Time. It reached #3 on the pop charts in 1970. The song was written by Holland-Dozier-Holland though they used phony names because Berry Gordy was suing them at the time. The group never had another pop hit though they had a lot of success on the R & B charts through 1975. The Invictus recordings are now licensed to Sanctuary Records and that's who released this comp. General Johnson had a solo career with Arista in the late 70s and reformed Chairmen Of The Board in the 80s. They still tour today. Here's Chairmen Of The Board performing Give Me Just A Little More Time 2008.
