OZ Academy's July 13 Shinjuku FACE show featured the final of the OZ Academy Tag Team Championship tournament with Carlos Amano & Dynamite Kansai vs Chikayo Nagashima & Sonoko Kato. There were some other developments and a big announcement. I will try to unravel the Ozaki/Amano storyline a little later. The opener was Ran Yu Yu vs Hiroyo Muto. They begin with a test of strength and Muto gets Ran on the mat. Ran reverses things and kicks Muto. Muto gets Ran in a camel clutch. Ran escapes and applies an armbar. Muto gets to the ropes but ran gives her a facewash in the corner followed by a running knee. They exchange chops and Ran traps Muto in the ropes. She has to break but hits a suplex. She gets Muto up for a fallaway slam but Muto counters and applies an armbar. Ran escapes and heads to the top turnbuckle. Muto follows her but Ran pushes her off. Muto goes up again and this time hits a superplex for two. Ran comes back and wins following two elbow smashes at 11:47.
The Devil Masami retirement tour continues with Yuki Miyazaki the opponent. Miyazaki tries to lift Devil but can't. Devil stares at her and then bodyslams her. Miyazaki's high knee sets up a plancha followed by a moonsault press. Miyazaki tries to grab Devil from behind but Devil bites her hand and bodyslams her. The end comes when Devil shoulder blocks Miyazaki followed by a vertical suplex and the Fire Volley at 4:16. Devil seemed surprised that it was that quick. Afterwards, it was announced that Devil Masami's retirement show called End Of Long Fight will be Dec. 30 at Korakuen Hall. In her retirement match, she will team with Aja Kong against Mayumi Ozaki & Dynamite Kansai. Chigusa Nagayo will promote this show.
Next was AKINO vs KAORU with Mika Nishio & Police at ringside helping KAORU and Ran YuYu helping AKINO. They start with a test of strength and AKINO gets KAORU down but KAORU bridges when AKINO attempts a double knee. KAORU reverses that and cheats to get AKINO in a camel clutch. KAORU has to break but traps AKINO in the corner and chokes her with her foot while Nishio watches nearby. KAORU applies a chinlock but AKINO escapes and soccer ball kicks KAORU's back. AKINO applies a camel clutch. The ref chases Nishio away. AKINO applies a surfboard and then gives KAORU a facewash in the corner. Nishio distracts AKINO and AKINO goes to the floor. Meanwhile, Police slides the deskboard into the ring. Nishio & Police gang up on AKINO and toss her back into the ring where KAORU hits her over the head with the deskboard. KAORU suplexes AKINO onto the deskboard but then KAORU misses a moonsault press. It gets chaotic with the outside interference but AKINO hits KAORU with a German suplex. Nishio distracts the ref while Police grabs AKINO from behind. KAORU sprays the mist but AKINO moves and she sprays Police by mistake. While KAORU is distracted, AKINO applies a stretch muffler and KAORU submits at 16:07.
Next is Mayumi Ozaki, Takako Inoue & Hiren vs Aja Kong, Manami Toyota & Hiroyo Matsumoto. Ozaki & D-Fix attack before the ring introductions and they're all fighting outside the ring. Back in the ring, Ozaki traps Matsumoto in the corner and she is triple teamed. She pulls her hair and Takako kicks her in the face. Matsumoto reverses things on Hiren but Ozaki grabs her from behind and tosses her out of the ring and they continue to beat on her. Aja, Toyota & Ran YuYu finally break it up but Matsumoto is still in trouble. She finally tags Aja in and Aja cleans house and chops Hiren several times and then Aja no sells several dropkicks. Hiren escapes to the floor but Aja follows her where D-Fix is waiting. Matsumoto & Ran come to the rescue. Back in the ring, Police hits Aja with a metal chair. She responds with a double lariat on Police & Hiren. Aja hits Hiren with a diving elbow drop followed by a body slam. Hiren hits a missile dropkick to the back of Aja's head and tags Takako. Aja hits a lariat and a brainbuster. Toyota tags in with two missile dropkicks followed by a rolling cradle for two. Ozaki & Hiren break things up and the three gang up on Toyota. Takako goes to the top and hits a thrust to Toyota's throat followed by an avalanche style brainbuster. She goes for the destiny's hammer but Toyota avoids it. Ozaki wraps a chain around Toyota's neck. She hits Toyota several times with the chain. Police comes in to hold Toyota but she moves and Police is nailed with the chain. Then Nishio intrudes and Ozaki nails her too. Matsumoto hits Ozaki with a back fist. Toyota hits Ozaki with a German suplex followed by a moonsault press for two. Then a Queen Bee Bomb for two. Then a cyclone suplex for two.
Matsumoto hits Ozaki with a back elbow and applies the Argentinian backbreaker. It's broken up and Ozaki hits a back fist. Aja & Matsumoto sandwich Ozaki and Hiren breaks up the pin. Ozaki hits another back fist. Then more D-Fix interference outside the ring. While Hiren attacks Matsumoto, Aja nails Ozaki with a lariat. But then she mistakenly nails Matsumoto. Ozaki hits a German suplex for two. Hiren nails Matsumoto with a high kick. Then she applies her ankle lock but Matsumoto reaches the ropes. While Ozaki & Takako ocupy Aja, Matsumoto hits Hiren with a side suplex followed by an Argentinian backbreaker. Police breaks it up. Ozaki hits a back fist and Hiren gets a rollup for two. The two go back and forth with various counter moves and the result is Matsumoto is caught off guard and Hiren rolls her up for the win at 22:19. Apparently this was Hiren's first win ever. Afterwards, Toyota grabs the mic and accuses Aja of coddling Matsumoto. She's tired of her screwups. Aja accuses Toyota of being selfish as usual and says she plans to call this new group Jungle Jack. The two decide to have a match on the Aug. 10 Korakuen Hall show for the Jungle Jack name and supposedly Aja has to change her name if she loses. And Matsumoto will face Hiren.
Now it's time for the OZ Academy Tag Team Championship tournament with Carlos Amano & Dynamite Kansai vs Chikayo Nagashima & Sonoko Kato. Of course it's a little strange that D-Fix isn't in the final, you can be sure Ozaki will intrude. Kato attacks Kansai before the bell. Nagashima kicks Kansai and applies a figure four leglock. Sato hits a guillotine leg drop from the top rope. Kansai reaches the ropes for the break. Kato tags in and attacks Kansai with kicks. Kansai responds with the same followed by a lariat. Nagashima tags in with a diving foot stamp for two. They exchange blows and Amano comes off the ropes with a flying lariat for two. Amano goes for the Carlos Ghosn but Nagashima blocks it and hits a uranage. Nagashima goes to the top but is knocked down to the floor. Kato joins her and Amano hits a Tope Con Hilo on both. Then the Ozaki army rushes in and attacks both teams. Back in the ring, Ozaki & Police nail Amano with a chair and then a chain. Kansai throws Hiren around. The ref is knocked out and lands on the floor. Ozaki & KAORU stomp Amano. Amano pulls Nagashima into the ring and Amano hits the Carlos Ghosn on Police followed by a Kansai diving foot stamp. Ozaki attacks Kato's knee with a chair but Nagashima grabs Ozaki and they all gang up on her until she's able to slide out of the ring.
But Police is still in the ring. He's attacking Kato's knee with the chair. But Nagashima makes the save and Amano hits the Carlos Ghosn. Kato is still down and Nagashima checks on her. Her knee is sprayed. It's sold as a serious injury but Kato will continue. Amano goes to the floor to revive the ref. The match resumes and Amano hits Nagashima with a flying lariat for two. Nagashima breaks up the pin and Amano takes her out while Kansai hits a diving foot stamp for the win at 22:20. Carlos Amano & Dynamite Kansai are your new OZ Academy Tag Team Champions.
Amano & Kansai have their moment but Mayumi Ozaki & KAORU come into the ring. Ozaki congratulated them on their temporary championship. She says the tournament was ridiculous and Amano & Kansai wouldn't have won except for unnecessary DQs. Kansai tells Amano to ignore her. Ozaki says though she isn't Principal anymore, as an OZ Academy representative, she can't allow Amano to win a championship belt in this manner. Ozaki & KAORU were unfailrly deprived of the opportunity to win the titles. Kansai keeps telling Amano to say nothing. But when Ozaki challenges for the tag team titles on the Aug. 10 Korakuen Hall show, Amano agrees to it when Ozaki dangles a hair match stipulation. It will be Carlos Amano & Dynamite Kansai defending the OZ Academy Tag Team Championship against Mayumi Ozaki & KAORU and the loser gets their heads shaved. It seems a little soon for Ozaki to go bald again. The interesting thing about this angle is that though Ozaki is the heel and Amano is the babyface, Amano's behaviour as the new Principal of OZ Academy has been as selfish as any heel. A lot of her storyline decisions during this tournament were as self serving as any heel you would see in a position of authourity. So the only difference between Ozaki's behaviour as Principal and Amano's behaviour as Principal is the preconceived fan perception of the characters. Ozaki is such a good heel that Amano's selfishness is acceptable but wasn't acceptable when Ozaki did the same. I doubt that Ozaki was going for a deeper psychology with the angle but I probably find that aspect more interesting than most. At this point, I wonder what Amano would have to do to really turn heel. Maybe it's not possible. Time will tell.
