AccuRadio Song Of The Day-United Future Organization

Artist:United Future Organization
Song:Loud Minority
Album:Discoteca: Firin' Latino House, Funk, Electro and Disco

Acid Jazz was an attempt by British DJ Gilles Peterson to get people to listen to jazz. Since most of the Acid Jazz I have heard is really R&B, I don't think Acid Jazz was very successful. But the music was pretty good. United Future Organization (UFO) was a more obvious attempt to get people to listen to jazz. They were Japanese DJs Tadashi Yabe and Toshio Matsuura and French DJ Raphael Sebbag. Loud Minority was their second single. When Peterson heard UFO, he signed them to his Talkin' Loud label and brought then to England. Peterson's relationship with PolyGram got UFO an appearance on the charity CD Stolen Moments: Red, Hot + Cool and that appearance generated enough interest to get a couple of UFO CDs released in the US on Verve. Loud Minority is based on the 1974 song The Loud Minority by sax player Frank Foster. The trumpet solo is by Hannibal Marvin Peterson. It also samples songs by Lonnie Smith, Michel Legrand and Art Blakey. The spoken word is from the 1960 comedy album Out Of My Head by New York radio personality George Crater. He hosted a jazz radio show. Most of UFO's albums are out of print. But you can get Loud Minority on this various artists budget CD compiled by DJ Martin Morales who is from Peru but he lives in England. UFO last recorded in 2002 when Matsuura left to work for Universal Japan on a remix project. All three guys still do remixes. Here's the video for Loud Minority by United Future Organization.
