Artist:The Pussycat Dolls f/Busta Rhymes
Song:Don't Cha
Album:PCD
The Pussycat Dolls started out as a dance group and then were turned into a music group. Don't Cha was their biggest hit in 2005. They only recorded two albums. The Pussycat Dolls were formed in 1995 as a modern day burlesque act by choreographer Robin Antin. They were in residency at the Los Angeles club The Viper Room from 1995-2001. They appeared in movies, TV and Playboy. Guests like Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani appeared with them. And Interscope producers Jimmy Iovine and Ron Fair made a deal with Antin to turn The Pussycat Dolls into a music group. They auditioned singers because most of The Pussycat Dolls couldn't sing. The main singer to come from this was former Eden's Crush lead singer Nicole Scherzinger. They hired other singers like Carmit Bachar, Melody Thornton, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta and Kimberly Wyatt. But Fair made the decision to focus on Nicole. This was the main reason The Pussycat Dolls split up. If Fair had spread the lead vocals around, that could have been avoided. Universal Chairman Doug Morris suggested the song Don't Cha written by Cee Lo Green for OutKast backup singer Tori Alamaze. It was released as a single but Tori left Universal and gave them back the song. The only difference between the two records was Busta Rhymes' rap was added. It reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. So now they had to record an album. PCD was certified 2XPlatinum and it sold 9M copies worldwide. Stickwitu was the other top five hit from the album. Of course they toured and appeared on TV. They even did the show The Pussycat Dolls Present The Search For The Next Doll to add a new member. The winner never joined the group. Then Carmit Bachar, who had been a Pussycat Doll since 1995, left in 2008 to go solo. The 2008 album Doll Domination didn't do nearly as well as the first album. And an attempt to launch Nicole as a solo artist was unsuccessful. After The Pussycat Dolls toured, they split up in 2010. Nicole has been blamed for the split. But her solo career and the others has been unsuccessful. So now there is talk that The Pussycat Dolls could reunite. Time will tell. Here's the video for Don't Cha by The Pussycat Dolls featuring Busta Rhymes.
