Artist:Warren G. f/O.G.L.B
Song:This D.J.
Album:Regulate...G Funk Era
Like many rappers, Warren Griffin III had a couple of big hits, a million selling album and then it seemed like he fell off the face of the earth. In Griffin's case, he took too long to release his second album and fans forgot about him. He was born Nov. 10, 1970 in Long Beach, CA. He is the stepbrother of Dr. Dre. He worked on Dr. Dre's 1992 album The Chronic. He was in the group 213 with Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg. 213 didn't release any albums but they all worked on each other's solo projects. Snoop Dogg had success first. Griffin's breakthrough was when Regulate appeared on the Above The Rim soundtrack. That reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Then he recorded the album Regulate...G Funk Era and it sold three million copies. This D.J. was the second single and it reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. The guest rapper who appears in the video is O.G.L.B. It appears to be his only appearance on anything. Griffin samples a couple of songs. But the main sample is the 1984 Midnight Star song Curious. Regulate...G Funk Era is available as a budget CD. By the time Griffin released his 1997 album Take A Look Over Your Shoulder, fans forgot about him. The album did OK but not even close to the first one. Griffin is still around. He released the EP Regulate...G Funk Era Part II in 2015. He produces other artists occasionally. But he's mostly known for the one album. Here's the video for This D.J. by Warren G. featuring O.G.L.B.
