Artist:Ultimate Painting
Song:Monday Morning, Somewhere Central
Album:Dusk
The British duo Ultimate Painting came about when Jack Cooper's band Mazes was opening for James Hoare's band Veronica Falls in 2013. The two guitarists decided to team up and make 60s influenced acoustic music. The first song they recorded was Ultimate Painting named after a 60s art commune. The music was just the two of them in the studio. They hired musicians for touring. They signed with the indie label Trouble In Mind and released the 2014 album Ultimate Painting. They went on a world tour. Monday Morning, Somewhere Central is from the 2016 album Dusk. This was their third album. They signed with the British label Bella Union and were working on a new album when Cooper announced that Ultimate Painting was splitting up and the album was cancelled. Cooper has formed a new band with Jeff Tobias called Modern Nature that seems to be jazz influenced and improvisational. They have released four albums on Bella Union. Hoare has joined The Proper Ornaments and appeared on their last couple of albums. So it looks like Cooper's change in musical direction caused the Ultimate Painting split. Fans of of neo psychedelia should check them out. Here's the video for Monday Morning, Somewhere Central by Ultimate Painting.
