Artist:Mark Schultz
Song:Back in His Arms Again
Album:The Best of Mark Schultz
In the early 00s, CCM singer songwriter Mark Schultz was a consistent chart topper and Dove Award nominee. He's not as successful today probably because he's not on a major label anymore. He was born Sept. 16, 1970 in Colby, KS. He taught himself to play piano and was involved in music and sports while in high school. After earning a bachelor of art degree in marketing at Kansas State, Schultz moved to Nashville to find a career in country music. Though he found an internship at BMI, Schultz was still making a living as a waiter. While closing the restaurant one night, a pastor named Mark DeVries came in with his wife. DeVries convinced Schultz to come work at his First Presbyterian Church youth ministry. Schultz worked there for eight years. He also toured with the Christian music group Up with People. While working at the church, Schultz began to write songs. The church organized a 2000 concert at the famed Ryman Auditorium. This got Schultz a record deal with Word Records and his 2000 debut album sold over a million copies. Back in His Arms Again is from Schultz's 2001 album Song Cinema. It was one of three singles to top the CCM chart. Schultz won a 2005 Dove Award for Long Form Video of the Year. Schultz released five albums for Word produced by either Monroe Jones or Brown Bannister. Both are experienced CCM producers. Schultz wrote all the songs. But he faded and left Word after the 2009 album Come Alive. Since then Schultz has recorded for Lucid, Fair Trade and currently his own label. His latest album was released in 2018. This budget comp covers his Word recordings. Schultz still tours but his days as a CCM chart topper are over. Here's Mark Schultz performing Back in His Arms Again on the 2003 Dove Awards broadcast.
