Artist:James Arthur
Song:Say You Won't Let Go
Album:Back from the Edge
Since winning the 2012 season of X Factor, singer songwriter James Arthur has been very successful in his native England. To date, the 2016 single Say You Won't Let Go is his only US chart single. He was born Mar. 2, 1988 in Middlesboriugh, North Yorkshire, England. After his parents divorce, he lived with each of them at different times. He lived in Bahrain with his mother and stepfather for four years. Arthur was in several unsuccessful bands before he released recordings as The James Arthur Project in 2011. Then he auditioned for X Factor and won that season. He signed with Simon Cowell's Syco label and the single Impossible topped the British charts. The album James Arthur was released in 2013 and it was certified Platinum. There was controversy regarding violent lyrics of a song called Follow the Leader. This was on a mixtape. Cowell was unhappy and this led to Arthur leaving Syco for Columbia for the 2016 album Back from the Edge. I guess Columbia wanted to break Arthur in the US. Say You Won't Let Go topped the British charts and reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is his only US chart single. Arthur wrote it with songwriters Neil Ormondy and Steve Solomon. The Script took legal action in 2018 claiming the song sounded too much like one of their songs. They got a songwriting credit. Most of Back from the Edge was produced by recording engineers Alex Beitzke and Bradley Spence. Arthur has since released two albums with diminishing returns in England. His current record deal is with Columbia in England and Germany concentrating on Europe. I just find that he sounds too much like other similar singers like Ed Sheeran for example. If he doesn't win X Factor, I doubt he gets a record deal. He's not distinctive enough. Here's the video for Say You Won't Let Go by James Arthur.
