Album:Jazz Party
Of course Delfeayo Marsalis is a member of a famous jazz family. He plays trombone. Though he records occasionally on his own label, he also appears as a sideman and with his brothers. He was born July 28, 1965 in New Orleans. His father was jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis Jr. His brothers are Wynton Marsalis (trumpet), Branford Marsalis (sax) and Jason Marsalis (drums). He started playing trombone in sixth grade. He studied at Berklee and holds a master's degree in jazz performance from the University of Louisville and has a doctorate from New England College. Marsalis toured with Ray Charles, Art Blakey and Abdullah Ibrahim. Then he got into producing albums for his brother Branford, Harry Connick Jr. and Marcus Roberts. Marsalis made his debut as a leader in 1992 on RCA's Novus label. He continues to record as a sideman with Branford, Elvin Jones and others. Marsalis has recorded on his own Troubador Jass label since 2006. Jazz Party is his latest album released in 2020. Marsalis is obviously going for a New Orleans party vibe. As it says in the video, guest singer Tonya Boyd-Cannon was a semi-finalist on The Voice. Also, he still produces and plays on albums by Wynton and Branford. Here's the video for Jazz Party by Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra featuring Tonya Boyd-Cannon.
