Artist:Ian O'Brien
Song:Monkey Jazz
Album:The Rebirth of Cool Vol. 7
Ian O'Brien is a music scholar who liked Techno enough to start making his own jazz influenced music that was successful in London dance clubs in the late 90s. He was born in 1973 in Southend, Essex, England. He started out doing remixes with Asad Rizvi as Memory Tree. Then he recorded the 1997 album Desert Scores which included singles like Monkey Jazz. For fans of Techno, this is considered a landmark release. O'Brien released three albums from 1996-2001. He went back to doing remixes and producing acts like Lisa Stansfield. Later he moved to Tokyo and released the 2013 album Understanding is Everything which is improvised keyboard jazz. O'Brien is still doing occasional remixes. But there's still a nostalgiac fondness for tracks like Monkey Jazz which you can get on this various artists budget comp. Here's a video for Monkey Jazz by Ian O'Brien.
