Artist:Nick Gilder
Song:Hot Child in the City
Album:I Love Rock & Roll: Hits of the 70's Vol. 3
Hot Child in the City topped the charts in 1978. It was the biggest hit for Nick Gilder. He has also had success as a songwriter. He was born Dec.21, 1951 in London, England but he grew up in Vancouver. By the time his band Sweeney Todd scored a number one hit in Canada with the 1976 single Roxy Roller, Gilder and guitarist and songwriting partner James McCulloch had left Sweeney Todd. Gilder signed a solo record deal with Chrysalis Records. The 1978 single Hot Child in the City is from Gilder's second solo album City Nights. The album was produced by veteran British producer Mike Chapman. Gilder and McCulloch wrote all the songs including Hot Child in the City. It topped the Billboard Hot 100. The sexy music video was probably a big help. Gilder says the song is based on child prostitution he witnessed in Los Angeles. A couple of Gilder's other singles charted but he never had another big hit. You can get Hot Child in the City on this various artists budget comp from PolyGram's Priority label. Gilder recorded three albums for Chrysalis, two for Casablanca and a 1985 album for RCA. He tried to reform Sweeney Todd in the late 90s and has attempted recording solo with no success. He still performs live. Gilder has had success as a songwriter. He co-wrote with Holly Knight The Warrior which topped the charts in 1984 for Scandal featuring Patty Smyth. Here's the video for Hot Child in the City by Nick Gilder.
Liked both songs. Roxy Roller was a big favorite of mine and Hot Child in the City is favorite as well. He was something else. And the late 70's from 75 to about 85 were something else as well. Thanks so much Frank.
