AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Nayobe

Artist:Nayobe

Song:Please Don't Go

Album:Freestyle's Greatest Divas Vol. 2

Nayobe Catalina Gomez scored a dance hit with the 1985 single Please Don't Go. This was in the early days of Freestyle. Today it is considered a classic by fans of Freestyle. It was Nayobe's only big hit. She was born Dec. 18, 1967 in Brooklyn, NY. Her parents were from Cuba. She started out as a background singer with The Fat Boys and Kurtis Blow. Then she signed with Fever Records owner Sal Abbatiello. He owned the New York City nightclub The Fever. His biggest artist was probably Lisette Melendez. Please Don't Go was Nayobe's first single and it reached #23 on the dance chart. And there was a 1986 album called Nayobe. The album was retitled Please Don't Go when the Canadian label Unidisc reissued it in 1991. This is out of print but you can get Please Don't Go on this various artists budget CD. Please Don't go was written and produced by Andy "Panda" Tripoli. Tripoli was just getting started in those days. But he went on to work with The Cover Girls among others. Tripoli produced most of the album with remix guy Chuck Ange. His co-writer on Please Don't Go was New York City DJ Luis Rivera. Subsequent singles did not do well. Abatiello closed Fever and signed with Sony's WTG label. Nayobe  released the 1990 album Promise Me. Despite having Teddy Riley produce several tracks, there was no hit single and the album flopped. Since then Nayobe has released a couple of albums. But mostly she performs on Freestyle nostalgia shows. Here's a video for Please Don't Go by Nayobe.
