He was born May 23, 1967 in Banao, Dominican Republic. He grew up singing in church. After winning a local talent contest, Acosta played local clubs. He was bassist for Los Gentiles. He met Gerardo Diaz in 1989 and became lead singer of Los Toros Band. And that is what made Acosta a star and that band was all over Dominican radio. Acosta left Los Toros Band in 2006 to go solo with the help of Diaz. He signed with Universal and his debut album Sigo Siendo Yo in 2006 did very well with hits like Me Voy. Sin Perdon is from the 2008 album Mitad/Mitad. Sin Perdon was written by Colombian music great Jorge Celedon. The two recorded the duet Mi Vio Llorar which topped the Latin music charts. Mitad/Mitad was certified Gold. After five albums, Acosta left Universal and he has recorded two albums on his own label. He is currently on tour.
