Hot Water Music is a punk band similar to Bad Religion which is ironic as they recorded for Epitaph Records owned by Bad Religion's Brett Gurewitz. After modest success, Hot Water Music split up and reformed. The members of Hot Water Music met in 1993 while living in Sarasota, FL. Lead singer and guitarist Chuck Ragan, bassist Jason Black and drummer George Rebelo were working at area eateries while trying to figure out the music business. They met guitarist Chris Wollard at a rehearsal space. Frustrated by the lack of musical opportunities in Sarasota, Black suggested they move to Gainesville. He was attending Florida State at the time. The band name Hot Water Music was taken from a collection of Charles Bukowski short stories. After releasing singles and EPs, Hot Water Music released a couple of albums on Doghouse Records. After two years of touring, they were going to split up. But Ragan announced on what was to be their final show that they were staying together. They signed with Epitaph for the 2001 album A Flight and a Crash. The three albums on Epitaph did well. They went on hiatus in 2005. That turned into a permanent split in 2006. Ragan went solo and the other members formed The Draft. Hot Water Music reunited for a short tour in 2008. They reformed permanently in 2011. Since then they have released two albums, the most recent in 2017. Hot Water Music will be of interest to punk fans.
