Here's the match video of Cynthia Calvillo vs Marina Rodriguez from last night's UFC show in Washington, DC. These two are looking to move up in the Strawweight rankings. Cynthia did herself no favors by missing weight. Cynthia is good on the ground. Marina is good on her feet. Both have success in their strong suits in round one. The round was close. But I thought Marina won the round 10-9. Round two was more clear cut and Marina won the round 10-9. So now Cynthia needs a finish. She didn't get it. But she dominated with ground and pound and won the round 10-8. She came close but I didn't think a stoppage was warranted. So I scored the fight a 28-28 tie and so did two of the judges. The fight was a majority draw. Marina complained afterwards that missing weight gave Cynthia a distinct advantage on the ground. Cynthia apologized for missing weight. And she said she would move up to Flyweight if necessary. I think she and coach Justin Buchholtz would be better served hiring a really good nutritionist to help her cut weight. She is undersized at Flyweight. Both need to improve in weak areas; Cynthia on her feet and Marina on the ground. Both would have problems with the better fighters in the division. Enjoy the video!
