Big Bad Blog Video Theater-Amanda Nunes vs Germaine de Randamie

Here's the match video of Amanda Nunes vs Germaine de Randamie from last night's UFC show in Las Vegas. This was for Amanda's UFC Bantamweight Championship. The first round went as I thought it might. Amanda dominated on the ground. She just wasn't able to get a finish. But she won the round 10-8. She seemed to tire herself out and Germaine was more successful with her striking. At this point, it appears that Amanda's plan as dictated by coach Conan Silveira was lay and pray. She took Germaine down and sat on her to see how long it would take for ref Keith Peterson to stand them up. Once she knew that, Amanda knew what her plan would be. Germaine won round two 10-9. The rest of the fight was Amanda taking down Germaine and doing enough so Peterson would let it go. What it showed is that Germaine is useless in the ground. I already knew that. So I scored the fight 49-45 for Amanda. In some ways, it was similar to Amanda's 2017 win over Valentina Shevchenko because it was boring. Fans booed. They like Amanda when she wrecks her opponent in round one. They don't like this Amanda. If Amanda's dominant first round had resulted in a finish, fans would be happy. I guess Silveira decided that if she couldn't finish in round one, Amanda would lay and pray to conserve energy. It turned out to be great strategy. She could have lost the fight on her feet. Amanda said this week she wants to defend her Featherweight title. I'm not sure who the opponent would be. Boxing champ Claressa Shields was at last night's show. I understand she is talking to UFC president Dana White. So that could be Amanda's next fight. Enjoy the video!
