AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Karen O

Artist:Karen O
Song:The Moon Song
Single:Music From and Inspired By The Motion Picture Her

Karen Lee Orzolek is best known as lead singer of the group Yeah Yeah Yeahs. She calls herself Karen O. As a solo artist she has mostly recorded for movies especially for director Spike Jonze. The Moon Song is from Jonze's 2014 film Her. It was nominated for a Grammy and an Oscar. Karen was born Nov. 22, 1968 in Busan, South Korea but she grew up in Englewood, NJ. She met Brian Chase while both were students at Oberlin College. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were formed in 2000. Her first time working with Spike Jonze was on a 2005 Adidas commercial. Then she wrote all the songs for Jonze's 2009 film Where The Wild Things Are. She also worked with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on the 2011 film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The score for Her was composed by Owen Pallett and Will Butler of Arcade Fire. Karen wrote and recorded The Moon Song with Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend. In the film, the song is performed by Scarlett Johnsson and Joaquin Phoenix. Karen's recording plays over the end credits. There was no soundtrack album released despite the fact that the score was nominated for an Oscar. But when The Moon Song was nominated of a Best Original Song Oscar, Warner Bros. released the song as a single available as a digital download. That's the only way you can get The Moon Song. The song was also nominated for a Grammy. Karen released a solo album in 2014 while the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were on hiatus. And she has a new album coming out with Danger Mouse. But the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are touring again. So I expect we will see new music from them in the future. Here's the video for The Moon Song by Karen O.
