The 1985 single The Power Of Love was the biggest hit for Jennifer Rush. She was more successful in Europe than in the US. She was born Heidi Stern Sept. 28, 1960 in Queens, NY. Her father is opera singer Maurice Stern. The family moved to Germany in 1969 and then to Seattle in 1973 when Stern joined the faculty of the University of Washington. Heidi released an album in 1979. She met songwriter and producer Gene McDaniels who suggested she launch her singing career in Germany. She signed with CBS. Her 1984 debut album Jennifer Rush was produced by Candy DeRouge (Wolfgang Detmann) and Gunther Mende. The three wrote most of the songs. When The Power Of Love became a hit in Europe including #1 in England, Epic in the US decided to release the album with a different cover. Though the video was in heavy rotation on MTV, The Power Of Love only reached #57 on the Billboard Hot 100. Covers of the song by Laura Branigan and especially Celine Dion were much bigger hits. Jennifer continued to have success in Europe. She last recorded in 2010 and she appeared on the 2015 TV show Idols South Africa as a mentor. According to her website, her dad got sick and her website has been inactive since then. So it looks like she retired. Here's the video for The Power Of Love by Jennifer Rush.
