AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The High Kings

Artist:The High Kings
Song:Red Is The Rose
Album:Decade: Best Of The High Kings

The High Kings are an Irish folk group under the musical direction of David Downes formerly of Riverdance and also one of the creators of Celtic Woman. The High Kings are more authentic because they have roots in Irish music. They have had success in Ireland and on the Billboard World Music chart. Finbarr Clancy is the son of Bobby Clancy. He toured with The Clancy Brothers in the 90s. Brian Dunphy was in Riverdance and he was in The Three Irish Tenors. His father Sean Dunphy had success in the 60s. Martin Furey is the son of Finbar Furey of The Fureys. He led the group Bohinta in the early 90s. Darren Holden was in Riverdance on Broadway and has also recorded solo. Downes assembled The High Kings and their debut CD The High Kings was released in 2008 by EMI. They toured the US with Celtic Woman. They have been very successful on Billboard's World Music chart. Red Is The Rose is from the 2010 CD Memory Lane which was released on Universal. It is the traditional Scottish folk song Loch Lomond with Irish lyrics. Tommy Makem popularized it in the 70s. This comp is available as a digital download and is a good intro to their music. Martin Furey retired in 2017. He was replaced by George Murphy from the TV competition show You're A Star. The High Kings just started a US tour. They are probably due for a new album. Here's the video for Red Is The Rose by The High Kings.
