Artist:Lee Rogers
Song:I Want You To Have Everything
Album:Beg Scream & Shout: The Big 'Ol Box Of '60s Soul
I Want You To Have Everything is the best known song by 60s soul singer Lee Rogers. Like a lot of obscure soul, it's a big favourite on the Northern Soul scene in England. Rogers music never had good enough distribution to get past the local Detroit market. He was born Rogers Craton Dec. 15, 1942 in Detroit. In the early 60s, he was a member of The Barons. They were on H.O.B. Records. No, not House Of Blues. House Of Beauty was a beauty salon owned by Berry Gordy's second wife Raymona Liles. None of The Barons' singles went anywhere and they split up. Rogers Craton changed his name to Lee Rogers. H.O.B. employee Michaels Hanks started his own D-Town label and I Want You To Have Everything was the only Lee Rogers song to get any kind of national airplay. And you can get it on this Rhino box set. It is a great song. In the 70s, Rogers moved to San Francisco and then Los Angeles and continued to work in the fringes of the music business without a whole lot of success. He died on Oct. 1, 1990 at age 47. Here's a video for I Want You To Have Everything by Lee Rogers.
