Jango Song Of The Day-Neneh Cherry

Artist:Neneh Cherry
Song:Buffalo Stance
Album:Raw Like Sushi

Of course Buffalo Stance was huge in 1989. And the question I always get asked is what happened to Neneh Cherry. You're going to feel really old when I tell you that she's a grandma. She was born Neneh Karlsson Mar. 10, 1964 in Stockholm, Sweden. Her dad is West African percussionist Amadu Jah and her mom is artist Moki Cherry. When her mom married jazz trumpeter Don Cherry, the family moved to New York in the early 70s. Her brother Eagle-Eye Cherry and sister Titiyo Jah are also singers. Neneh moved to London in 1980 to sing with the punk group The Cherries. and then Rip Rug + Panic. After a brief first marriage produced her daughter Naima, Neneh met producer Cameron McVey in 1987. They married in 1990. McVey wrote and produced Buffalo Stance under the name Booga Bear. He had recorded it previously with Morgan-McVey in 1986 but rearranged it for Neneh. The song topped the R & B charts and reached #3 on th Billboard Hot 100. The single Kisses On The Wind also did well but the 1992 follow up album Homebrew didn't sell and she left Virgin Records. She recorded the album Man in 1996 but has mostly raised her family (she has three daughters) and worked a lot with McVey. The have released two CDs as CirKus and Neneh is currently working on a new solo CD. And she became a grandma when her daughter Naima had a son in 2004. So Neneh Cherry still lives in London and still makes music. But it's not mainstream music. Here's the video for Buffalo Stance by Neneh Cherry.
