Jango Song Of The Day-Major Harris

Artist:Major Harris
Song:Love Won't Let Me Wait
Album:My Way

Love Won't Let Me Wait topped the R & B charts in 1975. I guess it's still a bedroom classic today and it was the only big hit for Major Harris III. He was born Feb. 9, 1947 in Richmond, VA and grew up in show business. His grandparents were in vaudeville. His dad was a guitarist and his mom directed the local church choir. His brother Joe Jefferson wrote several hits for The Spinners and his cousin was Philly Soul producer Norman Harris. He was in several vocal groups in the 60s and probably had his biggest success with The Jarmels and their hit A Little Bit Of Soap. His big break came in 1972 when he replaced Randy Cain in The Delfonics. He left to go solo in 1974 and signed with WMOT Records. They had a distribution deal with Atlantic. Love Won't Let Me Wait was the second single and topped the R & B charts in 1975. The song and the album My Way was produced by legendary Phiily Soul guitarist Bobby Eli. Eli also wrote the song with veteran songwriter Gwen Woolfolk under her pen name Vinnie Barrett. And of course MFSB played on the song. His other singles didn't do as well but My Way is a fine soul album and was recently released on CD for the first time by reissue label Friday Music. Harris left Atlantic for RCA after two albums and after his one album on RCA failed to sell, he returned to The Delfonics and has been touring with one of the two versions of the group ever since. Here's Major Harris performing Love Won't Let Me Wait on Soul Train 1975.
